I’m currently (as of 2-23-15) working on designing an innovation space for my employer Brophy College Preparatory. They are converting an 11,000 sf space underneath the gymnasium, currently housing the school’s library, to become the innovation space. This new space will host classes and student groups interested in making and developing products and ideas. The space hoping to create students who will embrace the maker, tinkerer, DIYer, and hacker movements.
The process is in the early stages, but I was able to put together a Google Sketchup model to help the school administration understand our ideas and desires of what this space might look like. The next phase will be ordering equipment and finalizing construction. I will continue to post information here as events unfold.
Below is a short video I put together to help parents understand the new Innovative Commons space.
The Innovation Commons is now in full swing and in it’s second semester of full classes. Check below for images of the built out space!
